(webstagram) The high school shooting that happened this week was in my hometown. My brothers went to that school, I almost did, and dear friends of mine have kids that were there and witnessed the event. My niece's junior high went on lockdown. I have been struggling with this event, as I do everytime this happens, but so close to home has it bringing up a lot more that I can't seem to fully digest. Tears have come at unexpected moments throughout the week. I can't even begin to imagine how these kids and their families are coping. And I feel for the victims as well as the kid who committed this act. I feel for our culture as a whole. We have lost ourselves. There is so much information and "entertainment" out there that we have disconnected from humanity. We don't see each other. We don't know how to sit with the uncomfortable and realness of life. We ignore the pain of others, because we've been taught to ignore our own. Undigested pain turns into dis-ease. Dis-ease turns into isolation, fear, and permanent solutions to temporary problems. The thing I keep coming back to in all of this is community. We need more community. We need more seeing, feeling, listening, and loving ourselves and each other. We are a species that require community to thrive. It is our natural way to move and be in the world. So go out there, please, look each other in the eyes. When you ask someone how they are, stop and really listen. When you are unsure of how you are doing, stop and really listen. Connect with that quiet space inside of you and let yourself feel. Encourage the person next to you to do the same. To feel. Give them your hand. Give them your time. Make time to sit with one another, real in-person, face-to-face time. When someone looks lost, hurt, disheveled, ask how you can be of service. Let's rebuild a world built on community and the collective. When one of us hurts, we all hurt. When one of us heals, we all heal. 💜 My heart is beating with yours @saugusstrong @saugus_cents 💙 #saugusstrong #notanothershooting #lovenothate #rebuild #community #hopenotfear

(webstagram) Let it be a prayer. My chanting teacher @robindyoga said to the room, "it's not a performance, it's a prayer." She was talking about chanting, but so much more. It has been my mantra all week. What if everything you did in life you did as prayer? Most of us walk around trying to perform, trying to fit a particular story, identity, or "perfect" figure of a person. We get consumed by how we will be received, and whether or not we will be loved. If we could stop performing, and start praying (whatever that means for you) then just maybe we would see that we are love, loved, and loving. Will you try this on with me this week? Your task: Stop performing and live, act, do, be as prayer. Let me know how it goes!

(webstagram) Dia de los Muertos is tomorrow, an ancient tradition honoring and celebrating death. In yoga, we also practice honoring and appreciating death, and the continuing circle of beginnings and endings; creation, life, destruction, and beginning anew. Tomorrow's Gratitude in the Park donation yoga flow will honor and celebrate these rituals through our practice, intentions, and coming together as a community. If you have an item that symbolizes these concepts in your life, or honors someone who has left this world, please bring this item to share in our circle as an offering. Class meets at 10:45am by the #garfieldmonument at the #sfconservatoryofflowers. All levels class. #donationbasedyoga All are welcome. Bring a mat or towel to practice on. Bring your smiles and open hearts 💗🙏

(webstagram) Today I am honoring and accepting that for me growth involves two steps forward and one step back. Honoring and accepting the step back as part of the process; progress ❤. What are you honoring and accepting about yourself, as you are right now?

(webstagram) can you open yourself to it. the fear. the uncertainty. can you trust there is a net beneath you. always. can you open your palms. trembling on your knees. a hurricane in your belly. thunder in your heart. rain dripping salty and warm from your eyes. can you let go. of the comfortable certainty of pain. the familiar let down. safety without risk. let it out. to let it in. bit by bit. can you let yourself feel. can you become real.

(webstagram) Start your week off with breath and movement to balance your mental, emotional, physical, energetic, and soul being. In yoga we call this the #5koshas, or the 5 layers of our being. The practice of yoga as it has been passed to me through my teachers, and as I pass on to you my students recognizes that for optimal health and well-being we must address all 5 koshas. When one aspect of self is hurting/suffering/injured, it affects all aspects of self. Come explore your koshas through your yoga practice with me tomorrow: @purushayoga 8am-9:15am @breathesaltyogasf 5-6pm (subbing for @shivanawellness #hathayoga #rajayoga #salttherapy #sfyoga #vinyasaflow #yogaashealing #theartofyoga #breath #renew #holistichealth
